Seneca E. Hildreth of the Hildreth Family Association Publications and Edward S. Hildreth in a genealogy submitted to me by Glenda Jean Dunavant Shaffell, apparently, are the same individual with an inversion of the first and middle names
1) Marriage Records of Edward Leonard Hildreth to Susie Wheeler Carr in the Shaffell genealogy
(Marriage Records City of Newport, RI Book 2 Page 70) lists Edward's father as Edward S. Hildreth
who died April 1, 1900 in Newport, RI (Death Records Newport RI Book 5 page 282). Hildreth Family Association (HFA) Publications have Seneca E's birth as September 05, 1816 and date of death as 1898
(no source indicated). The Newport death record does not indicate Edwards birthdate but does state he
was 83 years, 6 months 28 days at the time of his death on April 01, 1900. Thus the date of birth was judged to be September 03, 1816, varying only 2 days from the date given in the HFA records2) The HFA genealogy lists Seneca' parents as Edward Hildreth and Betsey Blodgett, the Shaffell genealogy as Edward Hildreth and Betsy Blodget.
3) The HFA genealogy shows Ara who was born in Chesterfield, NH in 1820 as a brother of Seneca E. Hildreth. The Shaffell genealogy has Ara, born in 1820, as a brother of Edward S. Hildreth.
Because of the documentation that Seneca's middle name is Edward and that Seneca E. and Edward S. Hildreth are the same individual, in this genealogy, the name Seneca is retained and it is assumed that the initial E is a contraction for Edward.
Birth record is missing and date was recorde 82 years, 8 months and 25 days later.
